This Award is named in memory of the late Cathy Donahue, a Parade Committee member and past Chairman. Cathy promoted the growth of the parade in its early years by helping to establish a financial framework for the Parade Committee organization. The Good Neighbor Award is given to a friend of the parade who, through his or her work, warmth and generosity has helped to contribute to the Parade Committee goals.
Born and raised in Worcester, Jerry grew up in the Belmont Hill section of the city. His father, Dennis, was born in County Kerry, while his mother, Joan, was born in Worcester. Both of his paternal and maternal grandparents were born in County Kerry. Jerry has 5 siblings - Mike, Ann,
Dennis, James and Maryann.
He graduated from Holy Name Central Catholic High School in 1978, Assumption University in 1982 with an BA in Management, and Anna Maria College in 1994 with an MA in Criminal Justice.
Jerry has been married to Elizabeth “Betsy” O’Rourke for 38 years. They live in the Tatnuck Square section of Worcester. They have 3 grown children, John (m. Maura), Tim (m. Brianna) and Julie, along with 4 grandchildren - Collins, Patrick, Cal and Keira.
Jerry started working as a police officer for the Worcester Police Department in March 1991. After 34 years of service, he will be retiring on January 31, 2025. During his career, he worked in several
divisions, including Operations (patrol), Community Policing (DARE Instructor), Bureau of Professional Standards, Training Division and the License Division.
Jerry enjoyed my years working with the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and was always amazed with their motivation and dedication in organizing this family-oriented event. He was also involved with the stART on the Street, stART at the Station, Courts for Courtney and Worcester Tercentennial.
